Mobile Driver's License (mDL) Verification
Verify your users with the digital ID they already carry.
Vouched now supports mobile driver's license (mDL) verification, allowing your end users to confirm their identity using credentials stored in their smartphone wallet — no physical document scan required.
Overview
When mDL verification is enabled on your account, users with a supported digital ID can complete identity verification in seconds by presenting their credential directly from their wallet. The flow runs inside the same Vouched experience your users already know.
Supported wallets
- California mDL (CA DMV Wallet)
- LA Wallet
- Google Wallet
- Samsung Wallet
- Apple Wallet (Coming Soon)
Coverage continues to expand as more states and providers come online.
Main Benefits
- Faster verification. Users with an mDL skip document capture and selfie steps entirely.
- Lower friction, higher conversion. A familiar one-tap experience instead of scanning a physical ID.
- Stronger trust. mDLs are cryptographically signed by the issuing authority, making them harder to spoof than a photo of a physical ID.
- Privacy-preserving. Only the data needed for verification is requested, with the user's explicit consent.
- Built on open standards. Aligned with ISO 18013-5 and the W3C Digital Credentials API.
Built-in fallback
Users without an mDL — or whose verification doesn't complete — continue seamlessly through Vouched's standard physical ID flow. There's no dead end.
Availability
mDL verification is currently in pilot. It's available to customers on request and is opt-in per account.
